Spring 2021 Student-generated project ideas

Here are additional project possibilities for Spring 2021

UH Class Reviews

The problem: UH students would like to hear from other students about their experiences taking courses.

The solution: A web application providing an online system to allow students to submit non-anonymous reviews of courses.

In the production version, students will login using UH CAS so that their identity is verified and can be posted with their review. For prototype development, Meteor login is fine.

Each review will include:

• The semester the course was taken.
• The class name
• The professor’s name
• Various star ratings (Difficulty, Importance to major, etc)
• A textual description of the course.
• Cost of course (materials, textbooks, etc.)
• Average number of hours spent studying per week.

Some of the features include:

• Find all reviews associated with a course.
• Find all reviews associated with a professor.
• Find all reviews for a given semester.
• Find all reviews for a given department.
• Find all reviews with a given “star” rating. (One to Five Stars)

And combinations of the above are also useful.

Moderation should be available to prevent libelous or otherwise inappropriate reviews.

UH LEETCODE

The Problem: The UH ICS PANDA group sponsors algorithm and interview questions to help UH ICS students prepare for job interviews. This process can be aided by an online database of questions and answers.

The Solution: An online system that allows students to create and manage a question database along with sample solutions. The site should also include links to study guides and reference materials that prepare the student to answer the quiz questions successfully.

UH Stray Cat Tracking

The Problem: UH has many stray cats. How can we manage this population in a humane way?

The Solution: UH Stray Cat Tracking is an application to enable the UH community to take care of its feral cat population. It includes features such as:

• Cat name, gender, pictures, age, location
• Illnesses
• Feeding volunteers
• Adoption/vet pickup
• Kittens notification
• Map-based location guide
• Reports on population, illnesses, feedings, etc.
• Emergency notification info
