Fall 2021 Student-generated project ideas

Here are additional project possibilities for Fall 2021

UH SurfBreaks

The problem: UH students coming from outside Hawaii might want to try surfing, but don’t know how to get started: where to go, who to go with, what skill level is necessary, what the current conditions are, and so forth.

The solution: A web application providing a way for students who are interested in surfing to find others to surf with, times to go surfing, as well as appropriate surfing spots based on their skill level.

As a “special sauce”, provide a way for the app to display real-time conditions for the various surf breaks. This could include updates based upon online weather and surf reports, or even real-time camera feeds.

If you pick this project, you cannot name your app “UH SurfBreaks”.

UH Roommate Finder

The problem. UH students wanting to live off-campus can benefit from an app that helps them find compatible room mates.

The solution. Provide a web application that enables UH students to create an account, define their room mate requirements and housing requirements according to a form, and then match them with other compatible students.

As a “special sauce”, provide support for students to be “rated” as a room mate by prior room mates.

If you pick this project, you cannot name your app “UH Roomate Finder”.
