Final Project Brainstorm

While I provide a number of sample final project ideas, I want to allow all of you the opportunity to come up with your own final project to work on. You can work alone, or in a group to do this brainstorming exercise.

To start, skim through the project ideas in the Final Project Module. You must come up with a final project idea that is different from any of those already listed.

To be suitable as an ICS 314 Final Project, your idea must satisfy at least the following three basic criteria:

1. Use Meteor, React, Bootstrap 5, GitHub Hosting.
2. Provide some sort of “special sauce”. For example, each user, after registering and logging in, has some individual state that affects how the application interacts with them.
3. Be oriented to the needs or interests of the UH Manoa community (or some other LOCAL community for which you have guaranteed access to community members for user evaluation of your app).

To propose your idea, your group must write and post an essay to one of your group member’s professional portfolios.

First, decide which one of you will be the “scribe”. That person should:

• Sync their professional portfolio repository to their laptop.
• Create a new file in the essays/ directory called “final-project-idea.md”.
• That file should have the following front matter:

Now, you (or you and your group) should write the essay. The essay should mimic the structure and content of the existing ideas:

1. Title and Author(s)
2. Overview (including “The problem” and “The solution”)
3. Mockup page ideas
4. Use case ideas
5. Beyond the basics

I suggest you commit your essay every few minutes as you write it and review the published page in a browser.

Submission instructions

Once you have finished writing up your project idea, publish the final version, and make sure it displays correctly as an essay.

Submit your project idea by one of your team members posting the link to your essay to the chat channel associated with your section (i.e. #001-chat, #002-chat, etc). The link only has to be posted once. We will look at the Authors listed in the essay to verify that everyone has participated.

If you have additional final project ideas, you can write them up separately and post them as essays. You are not limited to only one idea.

You do not have to submit anything to Laulima.

Appropriately detailed and interesting project ideas will be made available as additional alternatives to the currently ideas for your final project.
